Even if a show is sold out, tickets are sometime released on Ticketmaster.com on the day of the event and many times even for sold out shows if you visit the venue box office the day of the event you can get good seats.

Additionly, you can go down to the venue on the day of the show and try to buy extra tickets from folks who have too many tickets or had someone who does not showup. Ticket scalpers at the show try to low-ball those with extra tickets and offer much less than face value. You can step it and offer face value and usually the scalper will not offer more money for the ticket.
